Description

Our Opoponax Essential Oil, also called Sweet Myrrh, Habek Hadi Oil or Bissabol Oil, is distilled from the 100% pure, hand-harvested resin of Commiphora guidottii Chiov. ex Guid, growing wildly in the Acacia-Burseraceae bushlands of the arid and semi-arid Somali Region of Ethiopia.

The resin is freshly distilled and gently crushed just before the hydrodistillation process, in small batches and to completion, to ensure that the whole range of the precious volatile components are extracted. The oil is then dried and let to cure to its best scent profile, characteristic of the resin.

The essential oil has been proven to have various benefits and has found applications in the following areas:

• Cancer Treatment. One of the major sesquiterpenes of the oil,  β-Bisabolene, has been found to be cytotoxic to breast cancer cells.
• Its broad-spectrum antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties has made it useful in antiseptic preparations in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
• It is a main ingredient in perfumery, due to its beautiful and versatile scent and fixative properties.
• In aromatherapy, it is used in relaxing and uplifting natural room sprays and diffuser formulations
• Its skin-rejuvenating, antioxidant and antiinflammatory properties, coupled with its perfect hypo-allergenicity has made it the ideal oil for skin care and facial care formulations for both young and mature skin.

 

The essential oil blends very well with the following essential oils and fragrance oils: frankincenses (neglecta, rivae, frereana, carterii, occulta and papyrifera) myrrh, cedarwood, orange, bergamot, lemongrass, petitgrain, geranium, tea tree, rosemary, basils, cinnamon, cardamom, clove, jasmine and amber. It sweetens and fixes fragrances, adding oriental notes.
