Description
The mysterious Black Carterii, Boswellia occulta, was only recently isolated and identified as a separate variety of Somali frankincense. All along, it had been harvested and distilled along with the more abundant Boswellia carterii, and only through rigorous analysis of various contaminated samples was the resin isolated and its tree named.
Hydrodistilled from the black and sticky resin, the oil is known for its unique chemical composition, containing mostly decyl methyl ether, octyl methyl ether and seratol. It has a far much richer scent profile than the ordinary carterii, with the citrus notes fixed in honey-like base notes.
